About
Graduated from California State University Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. From there I taught myself modern web technologies that are used in the field. Mainly I would read documentation, search Stack Overflow, and use online learning sites like Udemy. Once I was at a professional level with these technologies, I started to build my own projects, posting them to GitHub and hosting some online. Eventually I was able to start a real career and that's where I am today.
Console.job - 2022 Project
A job board with paid listings, built with Next.js, React, Redis and Stripe
console.job was my second project hosted live for the public. Employers could post a job and pay for the listing with Stripe, and job seekers could search by keyword or by distance from where they live, then apply by email.
I learned more from this project than from any other: it was my first time taking real payments, running scheduled jobs, and working around caching on a live site. I built it with Next.js, Node.js API routes and Redis, using Redis as the main database, which is unusual since it’s best known for caching. Its JSON documents and search indexes handled everything the site needed. It’s been a few years, but I’m still proud of it.
Search
Full-text and location-based job search using Redis indexes and Google's Geocoding API.
Payments
Stripe Checkout for paid job postings, including promotion codes.
Applications by email
Applications delivered straight to employers through SendGrid.
Built for phones
Mobile-responsive pages, installable as a progressive web app.
